Ubuntu Live

Tell me what’s wrong with the picture:
Ubuntu Live

Anyways, Ubuntu Live looks like a great conference. The session line-up looks more like a conference than the one-day FUDCon’s, and with the tracks (there are 4 concurrent tracks), I am truly impressed. A big part of me wishes I was there… Some interesting tech bloggers like Stephen O’Grady of Redmonk fame, and Matt Asay are keynoting.

Of course, MySQL’s very own CEO, MÃ¥rten Mickos is also giving a keynote on Monday July 23, at 9:20-9.40am.

One caveat with Ubuntu Live: its cost. FUDCon is free, and true to its nature, really does spread community love (with about two tracks). Its USD$895 to attend Ubuntu Live – very troublesome to the pocketbook.

Hi! Besides the cost factor (which has to do with O’Reilly running UbuntuLive), there is the other weirdness that the photo above is actually from the MySQL Users Conference 2006, and shows Roland Bouman and Mike Zinner, two MySQL Employees.

  2. my slides, at least, will be available – not that that’s any real reward ;)

Yay, Jay wins the set of tupperware :-)
(But should probably be disqualified because he’s a mysql’er :P)

@Stephen: Heh, a consolation, but not any real reward, no. Was hoping to meet you at the MySQL Conf, but maybe next year…

I sure wish I would have seen your message earlier. We had five extra passes that went unused. The conference was non-stop amazing, only complaint was that the talks needed to be longer. Nearly every speaker had the group wishing for more, asking too many questions to answer in the short amount of time. High quality content too.

I think the cost was well-justified. They fed us well, three meals a day, and on the 1st night’s get-together, they had plenty of beer & a big velcro wall, surfing thing, and a bungee run. They were well staffed & it ran like clockwork. The conference was exceptionally well done.

I’ll be there again next year for sure.
